I just got your comments for the last two days just now. Something weird is happening. In any case, have you tried classical music? And as I've said, it's when I'm writing English prose, not progamming, or anything else. In those case, it's sans-music.

i can't work without music (words ok, usually because i've heard the song a hundred times anyway). i just can't focus or concentrate otherwise. my mind wanders. other distractions, like people talking outside my office absorb my entire attention.

i thought closing the door and turning on the speakers would help, but in the last day or two i think i've learned it's not nearly as effective as headphones. delivers the drug straight to my brain. maybe i should try canal phones.

i think this is mostly a startup thing. sometimes, if i am totally focused (2-3 hours later), i turn the music off so i can think harder. the music actually becomes distracting to my thoughts at that point. but it's hard getting started without some "pleasing" stimulus.
